NEW BDCI FESTIVAL CHAIRMAN APPOINTED

Chairman of Riverway Foods, Steve Crosby, is to take over from Ocado’s head of buying, Rose Price, as BDCI Festival Chairman for 2016.

Steve began his career in the meat trade in 1969, initially working for Mr Terry Johnson, selling meat to London butchers from the back of a lorry. Two years later, when Terry moved to Cornwall to start up the phenomenon that was St Merryn Meats, Steve bought a shop opposite Smithfield Market and established ‘Crosby Meat Wholesale’; a thriving business until it was subject to a compulsory purchase order by Crossrail in 2012. In 1990 Steve and Terry formed Essex Retail Packers, producing turkey portions for the retail trade. This was Steve’s introduction into the retail packing market. In 1999 Steve started Riverway Foods, which he still runs today with his sons Steve Jnr and Jon, producing premium quality sausages for the retail trade.

Steve has been a keen supporter of the BDCI for the last 30 years. He said “I became aware of just how important the charity is when a colleague of mine received help from the BDCI at a particularly hard time in his life. The BDCI still reaches out to people associated with the meat trade today in times when they need help, and I’m very proud to be associated with it”.

“I wanted to take on the role of Festival Chairman to continue Rose Price’s excellent work and help raise funds for the charity. I am looking forward to the year ahead and I hope that I can count on the support of everyone working in the meat trade to help those who are less fortunate then themselves”

Dates have already been set for the annual golf day, which will take place at Surrey Downs Golf Course on Wednesday 14th September, and for the Annual Festival Dinner, which will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Friday 21st October. For more information and to book tickets click here.
