BDCI Festival Chairman Julien Pursglove receives coveted Excellence Award at Meat Management Magazine’s Industry Awards


Julien Pursglove, Institute of Meat (IoM) accredited Master Butcher for Sainsbury’s, was presented with a special Excellence Award at the 2017 Meat Management Industry Awards ceremony on Wednesday 28th June.

The presentation of the Excellence Award was a highlight of the evening and closed the event’s proceedings. Finalists for the award are nominated by the magazine’s readers and the accolade is presented to one individual each year who has made an outstanding contribution to the UK meat industry.

Julien has been with Sainsbury’s for almost 40 years and was the first supermarket butcher to become an IoM Master Butcher. Julien is also this year’s Festival Chairman for BDCI.

Julien is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers (WCB) and the livery’s Master, Stuart Thompson, was present at the awards dinner to congratulate Julien on his win.

Julien said: “I am highly delighted and honored to have been nominated and to have won this prestigious accolade. One of the highlights for me was that the proceeds of the raffle were kindly donated to BDCI. As Festival Chairman I would like to express my thanks to Meat Management and Yandell Publishing in particular and to all those present on the night for their support.
